If you want to increase your independence from the grid, adding solar battery storage to your solar system will maximise the amount of renewable energy you use in your home. Find out how you can make your solar panels go further.
What is solar battery storage?
Solar panels generate electricity during the day, but with no means of using this electricity in the evenings. By adding battery storage, you can use the excess energy in the evenings to cut your bills back further. Without battery storage, excess energy produced will be wasted but can be sold to the grid on the Smart Export Guarantee or Feed-in-Tariff.
Benefits of storing solar energy
· Reduce your electricity bill
You’ll be more independent from the grid and can use any stored energy in the evening for all you need.
· Get paid for any energy you don’t use
Any energy that you don’t need or use, can be sold back to the grid under the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG). If you add battery storage to existing solar PV, your Feed-in-Tariff or Smart Export Guarantee payments will be unaffected.
· Reduce your carbon footprint
As you’ll be generating and using renewable energy, you’ll be doing your bit to reduce your carbon footprint.
Battery storage can be installed in a garage, utility room or under the stairs. It will need to be close to the main consumer unit, and it’s generally similar in size to carry on hand luggage. A survey will be conducted to help decide on the best location for the battery.
